New Sunwayfoto Specific L Bracket for Canon 5D Mk III - Preview

Sunwayfoto PCL-5DIII Specific L Bracket for Canon 5D Mk III

After a series of quite convenient universal L brackets, Sunwayfoto have released earlier this June their first dedicated L bracket specifically designed for the new Canon 5D Mk III body (without a battery grip).

PCL-5DIII follows the skeleton design with convex edges as the PC-5DIII specific plate which was released a couple of months ago.

PCL-5DIII is precision CNC machined from aircraft-grade aluminium with high quality surface anodizing.
Convex edges both at the front and the back sides of the base plate prevent it from moving or twisting.
Apart from the laser engraved Sunwayfoto logo and model name at the back side, there are two laser engraved Φ marks signifying the lens center axis both at the landscape and the portrait orientation.
Sunwayfoto PCL-5DIII L Bracket side view - remote gap detail
A gap on the vertical side of the bracket permits the use of a remote release cord without need of moving the bracket.
However, due to the gap, I feel that a longer quick release clamp would be required to support better the bracket. That is,  in order to clamp the dovetail on both sides of the gap, when in the portrait position.

The bottom side reveals the Arca Swiss® compatible dovetail, two threaded holes for M3 safety stop screws at the edges and an extra 1/4"-20 threaded hole for use on a tripod without removing the plate.

Any excess material has been removed from the L bracket, in order to minimize weight making it a skeleton design.
There exists also a strap mount hole at one side in order to facilitate the attachment of a wrist strap.

Mounting the Bracket on the Camera

The convex edges embrace nicely the camera base curves making any twisting impossible. As does the vertical bracket to the side of the camera.

  1. Hi Sotiris C. Vlachos,

Thanks for putting up these information. The images are well taken.

Is it possible to include a pic to show the Before and After installation of the M3 Stop screw?

I notice I have total of 4 M3 screws and one center 1/4 screw to mount cam to bracket.

    1. Hi Calvin,
      Thanks for commenting.
Independent of the number of M3 screws supplied, only two can be installed on the base plate of the L bracket.
I have included a photo marked with screw positioning for your information.
