Sunwfayfoto is one of the first camera support equipment manufacturers who released last week a custom Arca-Swiss® compatible Quick Release Plate and a modular L Bracket dedicated to the new SONY® high end full frame mirrorless α7 and α7R cameras.
The design follows the very lightweight pattern used on their previous models dedicated to NEX 5N ans NEX 7 mirrorless cameras, which adds very little bulk to the slimline mirrorless camera body.

| Sunwayfoto PSL-a7 Arca-Swiss® compatible custom QR plate / L bracket is 90 mm long occupying most of the Sony α7 base. Two convex bosses at the front act as stoppers and prevent the plate from twisting. Sunwayfoto engineers made every effort to eliminate excess weight bringing it down to a mere 38.7 gr. which is even less than a common Arca-Swiss compatible camera QR plate. |

The 1/4"-20 captive mounting screw is located off center towards the back, while almost centered exists an extra 1/4"-20 threaded hole for monopod mounting without having to remove the QR plate.
The dovetail base is 39 x 39 mm square permitting the bidirectional mounting of the camera on an Arca-Swiss® compatible Quick Release Clamp.

The modular PSL-a7 L bracket comes in two parts, the base plate and the vertical L side, together with one 1/4"-20 hex socket cap screw for mounting on the camera, two small hex screws for mounting the L side on the base and the respectively sized Allen hex keys.
An attribute of the L side plate. originally introduced with the Sony Nex-7 L Bracket, is its thickness. Actually is half than usual, just thick enough for the formation of the dovetail, succeeding by this the very low weight of ~39 gr for the whole bracket.
The L side can be easily attached / detached by the user with the included Allen hex key, either for saving some weight or for camera handling convenience.

Mounting on the Camera
The PSL-a7 L Bracket fits nicely and embraces the Sony α7 / α7R body adding a minimal extra to the camera dimensions and weight.

| The PS-a7 base plate occupies all the width under the LCD screen, starting from the left edge and stopping just before the battery door hing enabling the unobstructed exchange of batteries.The anti-twisting convex bosses sit against the front panel of the camera, so nothing interferes with the raising and tilting of the LCD screen.The vertical L side reaches the same height as the LCD screen, where its small recess on top embraces the strap hook base. Obvious from the illustration above is that the opening permits full access to the camera side connectors. |
