Custom QR Plates for Canon EOS 5D MkIII and Gripped EOS 7D from Desmond

Desmond is making a debut in the customized Arca-Swiss® compatible quick-release plate world with two models for the Canon EOS series of cameras.

The D5D3G dedicated to the EOS 5D Mk III and the D7DG to the quite older EOS 7D.
However, the second is not designed to fit the camera body as most custom QR plates do, but the BG-E7 Battery Grip instead.

The D5D3G QR plate features convex edges at both sides, which immobilize the plate on the camera base. The skeletal design minimizes the weight while a strap loop is also present at one end.

The bottom side view reveals the 1/4'-20 captive mounting screw which has a hex socket but is also slotted and the two M3 safety stop screws at both ends. There is also an 1/4"-20 threaded hole beside the mounting screw for direct mounting on a pod without having to remove the plate.

The D7DG QR plate is a little different in design, still skeletal but more robust, thus a little larger and heavier. There is only one front convex edge to hold the plate since otherwise it would block the BG-E7 battery door which opens from the rear, but sports two strap loops at either sides.

Same as with the D5D3G plate, the bottom side view reveals the 1/4'-20 captive mounting screw which has a hex socket but is also slotted and the two M3 safety stop screws at both ends. There is also an 1/4"-20 threaded hole behind the mounting screw for direct mounting, while the mounting screw moves withing a slot which in turn permits lateral adjustment of the plate.

Common Features
Both plates are precision CNC machined from solid Aircraft grade Aluminium following the skeletal design, featuring safety stop screws at both ends, plus compatibility with all Arca style quick release clamps including RRS Lever clamps.

Further, they are accompanied by 1 x 1/4"-20 hex-socket captive screw, 2 x M3 safety stop screws and two Allen hex keys appropriate for the mounting and the safety screws.

With the release of these QR plates, Desmond Photographic Distributors fill in a gap in their line of products, offering a lightweight solution for high end cameras at a very low price as usual.
