The new member F162b is not absolutely new actually. As it is obvious from the photos, that it is based on the well known standard Hejnar Photo F62Ab Quick Release Clamp (review). But besides that it's thicker and sports a special thinner mono-block screw knob.
The reason is that the F162b QR Clamp comes to fulfill a need, long time wished, by many Hajnar QR clamp users. The need to mount a screw-knob clamp on a flat surface without the screw-knob interfere with that surface. Something impossible with the standard design Hejnar clamps.

The top side is identical to the F62b QR clamp with decimal scales on both jaws, the 2.6 mm deep safety stop relief grooves, the counter sunk and 3/8"-16 threaded center hole and the two standard side mounting screws which are also counter sank and 1/4"-20 threaded, places 30 mm apart.
Same applies to the tongue in pocket design of the moving jaw guides which guaranty a long term impeccable operation by not allowing dirt and grit entering the clamp interior.
Nothing changes at the bottom side as well, where we see the standard Hejnar dowel pin holes and the usual carved out holes which help maintain the weight low.
Considering the increase in thickness of the F162b structure, the eliminated material helps in that only 30 gr are added to the total weight compared to the original F62b.
What makes the difference though is the thinner block screw knob, which by being narrower than the thickness of the clamp, it will not interfere with any surface on top or bellow the clamp.
In other words, the user can either clamp a large format camera plate that extends a lot out of the QR clamp perimeter or mount the clamp flash on a large board or video camera rig, without the screw knob come in contact with either surfaces.
More than that, in case the space is tight and the screw-knob cannot be operated by hand, the knob is also equipped with a 5 mm hex socket. This of course allows the knob to be turned, locking or unlocking the clamp via an Allen hex key.
As standard with all Hejnar Photo products the appropriate screws and tools are included. In the F162b case, come a 1/4"-20 flat head hex-socket mounting screw and its corresponding Allen hex key.
Compatibility
Arca Swiss® compatibility is a long time standard for Hejnar Photo products extended to this QR clamp as well.
