You have managed to pull together an excellent setup which is able to cope with future expansion of your gear.
Regarding the lock knob, is not a problem as it just unscrews more than actually needed, mine is the same. You just need to regulate the minimum friction you prefer and then turn clockwise the small thumb screw on the knob until it stops. This will not permit the lock knob to unscrew further than the set point.
With a little experimentation you will find a sweet spot for your gear (loaded each time) where the ball remains inert in all angles but you will still be able to move it by hand.
Enjoy your new equipment and happy shooting!Sotiris C. I agree with you in that this should be a much better combination for my setup (D600). Although the base plate of the Nest tripod is supposed to be 50mm it is larger (probably closer to 58/60mm) and the FB 44 is (supposed to be) 55mm, the ball head fits within the diameter of the tripod plate. Overall the ball head looks to be very nice except that the tilt knob seems to be loose, i.e. there is some play before the knob engages. This is not really a problem but was unexpected. So here is my setup (from the bottom): Nest 6324C tripod, Sunwayfoto FB44 Ball Head, Sunwayfoto PNL-D600 L bracket, and for panorama shooting add the Sunwayfoto DDP-62S with DDY-64IL discal, and Sunwayfoto DMP-200 nodal slide. So far looks to be an excellent setup-now I just need to get out and shoot some images! Thanks for your reviews!Stevehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00922224952849254375noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5603072406405307469.post-10237036641446830102014-03-05T01:12:07.553+02:002014-03-05T01:12:07.553+02:00Thanks for the information. Any feedback on the results will be appreciated.Sotiris C. I am using a D600 with 70-300 VR (currently the largest/heaviest lens I own). I may upgrade head if needed. Nevertheless, it depends on the tasks the tripod will be commissioned to and of course if one can afford the extra cost, weight and bulk of the larger ball head.
Regards, Sotiris
Sotiris C. Looks to be a good unit but waiting on my FB 36 head before I can put it to use.

SteveStevehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00922224952849254375noreply@blogger.com
