New Hejnar PHOTO Linear Motion Micrometer Macro / Micro Rail

A selection of Linear Motion focusing macro rails and/or macro stages are quite sometime in the Hejnar PHOTO line of camera support equipment.

However, this new Linear Motion Micrometer screw focusing or micro rail is distinguished. The incorporation of a Micrometer Head with an extra fine graduation of 0.01mm !!! puts it at the top of the Hejnar line of macro / micro rails, and in direct competition to Newport (tm) Linear stages.

The rail, structure and clamp are made from Black hard coat anodized Aluminium, but moving parts of the slider are made from Stainless Steel and Wear & Water-Resistant Delrin® Acetal Resin ( see Polyoxymethylene ).
The focusing rail has a length of 6.3" (16 cm) while its total length with Micrometer Head is 10" (25,4 cm). It is 2.18" (5,54 cm) wide by 2.5" (6,35 cm) thick including the quick release clamp. Total Weight 1 lb.11oz (760g)

The Mitutoyo Micrometer Head has a 0-25mm range of movement and a fine graduation of 0.01mm. The Micrometer head can be oriented in any direction (default orientation is with scale facing up).

The Quick Release Clamp

The slider is equipped with a Hejnar Photo F72b 2.375" (6 cm) long Arca Swiss (tm) compatible Quick Release clamp, with embedded bubble spirit level. (b at the end stands for long black knob).
The clamp is retained on the slider by a 1/4"-20 flat head screw, which can be easily removed...

...in order to reveal the relevant threaded hole and the alignment dowel pins.

As all Hejnar PHOTO clamps, F72b has corresponding 5mm holes at its bottom for the proper alignment with other Hejnar rails or clamps.

Just by changing the dowel pins position...

The quick release clamp screw knob can be reoriented, by 90 degrees, at any four positions suitable to the users needs. And securely fixed again with the 1/4"-20 screw.

The bottom rail is equipped with an Arca Swiss (tm) compatible dovetail , so it can be used with any head with an Arca compatible clamp.

Usage Example

The MS4 Linear Motion Micrometer adjusting micro rail mounted on a Manfrotto 410 Geared Head equipped with Hejnar Photo Arca Swiss (tm) conversion plate and clamp. A rough camera to subject distance can be performed moving the MS4 rail within the clamp and then make extra fine adjustments using the Micrometer.
The Rail will work in vertical orientation (perpendicular to the ground) with a load up to 10 lb (4,53 kg), while in horizontal orientation (parallel to the ground) the load can be increased up to 15 lb (6,80 kg).

Conclusion
The choice of materials, manufacturing quality, extra fine micrometric adjustment and last but not least, Arca Swiss (tm) compatibility make this Linear Focusing rail really outstanding.
