Useful Links for Panorama Stitching, Image Manipulation and Lighting

This is a reference page, as an aid to my readers and friends who would like more information and/or expand their knowledge in topics relevant to the content of this blog.

These Links to Articles and Sites were gathered through my quest for unbiased information and low cost / free software solutions.

The contents reside in secure sites of non-profit organizations.

At this stage the suggested Links concern articles and software for Photo Post Processing or Stitching as well as some lighting techniques.



Autostitch Panorama  Free demo software of original Panorama Tools algorithms which are used as a base for many commercial products.

Dr. H. Dersch Articles & Software Dr. H. Dersch is the creator of original Panorama Tools algorithms, later licensed commercially and PTViewer an interactive viewer for virtual reality panoramas. Suitable for HDR (high dynamic range)-images.

FOV and Panorama Calculator A very useful utility by Frank van der Pol, which calculates Field of View, number of images and overlap percentage for Panoramic images.

GNU Image Manipulation (GIMP) An open source and freely distributed program for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring and much more.
It has many capabilities. It can be used as a simple paint program, an expert quality photo retouching program, an online batch processing system, a mass production image renderer, an image format converter, etc.

Hugin Panorama photo stitcher An open source and  free download Panorama Photo Stitching software based on Panorama Tools.

Panotools Wiki A wiki with an enormous amount of information and tutorials on Panorama Tools as well as  databases for Panorama Software, hardware and lenses. There is also en Entrance Pupil Database (Non Parallax Point / Nodal Point) with a lot of popular cameras and lenses that might prove helpful.

VR Wave Panoramic Lens Database A very thorough listing with field of view and number of pictures required for most wide angle lenses from all manufacturers suitable for panoramic photography.

A Holistic Approach to Lighting and Digital Photography Interesting readings and tutorials by Chuck Gardner in photography and lighting, which offer baseline concepts for beginners and not only, as anyone can benefit from his approach.
