Hejnar PHOTO F-GH1 Arca QR Clamp for Gitzo Ball Heads Preview

Soon after the Hejnar PHOTO F-GH2780QR Arca QR Clamp for Gitzo Ball Heads, Chris Hejnar has intrioduced another conversion for Gitzo® heads.

Somehow the previous model was quite large, designed specifically to fit the size of the Gitzo® GH2780QR Center ballhead with quick release.

The new FG1 model is smaller and a better match for the Gitzo® GH1780QR Center ballhead.

The Clamp
The Hejnar PHOTO F-G1 Arca compatible Quick Release Clamp design is based on the very well known Hejnar Photo F62b Quick Release Clamp which like its siblings was described back in 2012 in the Updated Hejnar PHOTO Quick Release Clamps Preview.
Same as with the recent F-GH2780QR the F-G1 has an entirely redesigned center section in order to match the 3 mounting screw option of the Gitzo® heads.

The F-G1 maintains the 2.375" (6.3 mm) long jaws of the F62b QR clamp. Every detail is there, the laser engraved scales on both jaws and the deep V-shaped safety stop screw relief grooves, but the countersunk center hole is gone,  replaced by three tapped holes forming an equilateral triangle.

Compared to the base model F-62 it's obvious that the bottom anti-twist alignment groove is also replaced by the narrower ends of the pass through mounting holes. 

The F-G1 clamp is accompanied by three M3 hex cap bolts and the appropriate 2.5 mm Allen hex key for mounting on the  Gitzo® heads.

As all Hejnar Clamps, the F-G1 follows a Tongue-in-pocket Design that protects internal parts from dust and grit. The specific design prevents from the tendency of the moving jaw to hinge backward during clamping, So it keeps the jaws aligned with the geometry of the plate ensuring maximum contact between the surfaces.

Mounting the Clamp On the Ball Head

The conversion is relatively easy, since it only takes to loosen and unscrew the three screws that hold the Gitzo QR clamp, and screw the Hejnar Arca QR Clamp with the provided screws in its place.
I would suggest a drop of medium strength thread-lock, like Loctite blue on each screw in order to prevent screws from loosening.
Shown above is Hejnar PHOTO F-G1 Arca QR Clamp mounted on the Series 1 Gitzo GH1780QR Ball Head.

The smaller Hejnar F-G1 Arca QR Clamp can be attached on all Series 1 GH1780QR, Black GH1781QR, Safari GH1780FQR, Series 2 GH2780QR, Black GH2781QR, Safari GH2780FQR and Series 3 GH3780QR, Black GH3781QR, Safari GH3780FQR. However its size is matching more with the size of the smaller Series 1 and Series 2 QR Gitzo® heads.
