It still remains the first in the world Linear Motion - Lead Screw focusing macro rail with a Digital Scale attached on its side, and with an Arca-Swiss® compatible dovetail as expected.
The modifications applied to the MS5 DSP had been already implemented on the Hejnar PHOTO MS5P 8" Linear Motion Lead Screw Macro Rail (preview) released last March.
In a few words the old Push Button mechanism present in the Hejnar PHOTO MS-3_8 Linear Motion Macro Focusing Stage (review) has been applied on the newer MS5 series macro rails, reducing production cost with fewer parts and machining time. Therefore, Hejnar may now offer the MS5 series at a lower price.

As obvious from the table above, the MS5_DS4 and the MS5 DSP have exactly the same characteristics. While all other high end specs remain; with an outer shell made of aluminum with a 0.002" thick ceramic coating. This offers added corrosion resistance and endurance at a temperature range of –400° F to +375° F (-240° C to +190° C ).
Further to that, the Self Aligning Linear Sleeve Bearings featured by the MS5 series rails, have a nonabrasive, chemical-resistant PTFE liner which doesn't require any additional lubrication, consisting them virtually maintenance free.

The Digital Scale
As with its predecessor the innovation and most important attribute of this MS5 DSP macro stage is the Digital Scale which offers a quite useful number of functions.
Further down the orange and blue buttons are responsible for changing the reading in increasing or decreasing order.
The Digital Scale Reading / Control Head is driven by an extension protruding from below the carriage. It features several buttons which control the functions. A red [OFF] button, a green [ON] button with [0] (zero) function when pressed twice, (meaning it can zero the reading at any point of the scale so a + or - reading can start from there).

The F63b is a common feature on all MS5 macro rails. As all Hejnar clamps is compatible with virtually any Arca style Quick Release plate.
Further, being offered as an add-on unit, it can be removed and mounted on other equipment if the end user wishes.

The clamp can be easily removed and reoriented in 90° increments, so as to place the clamp jaws either parallel or perpendicular to the slider moving axis and the srew-knob of the clamp at any side the user feels more convenient for its operation.
When the clamp is set perpendicularly to the slider as shown in the previous illustration above, then the wide clamping area becomes a convenient platform for lateral adjustment of the camera within the clamp.
The Arca Dovetail
As all Hejnar Macro Stages, the MS5_DSP is equipped with an Arca style dovetail, compatible with almost any brand Arca compatible QR clamps even RRS® lever release clamps.
Additionally an 1/4"-20 threaded center hole on the center brace of the rail allows for direct mounting on a pod with an 1/4"-20 stud.
Using the long bottom dovetail the camera to subject distance can be first adjusted by moving the whole stage within the limits of the QR clamp that is mounted on and then engage in extra-fine adjustments using the lead screw knobs.

According to Hejnar Photo, the operational load capacity of their lead screw rails is up to 10 lb (4,53 kg) in vertical orientation (perpendicular to the ground), while it can be increased up to 15 lb (6,80 kg) in horizontal orientation (parallel to the ground).
