Further to their previous announcement last month about their Dedicated Arca Style QR Plates for Nikon Z6 / Z7 and FTZ Adapter, Hejnar PHOTO has announced an alternative solution.
Besides the two QR plates models D043 and D044, another model named D045 was released but this one is dedicated to the FTZ adapter enabling more setup combinations as we shall see further down in more detail.
As mentioned in the previous post model D044 is sold stand alone, however this time the combo includes the D044 and the new higher model D045 for the Nikon FTZ Lens Adapter, instead of the D043 combined with the small D020 QR plate.
Just for the record D044 QR plate fits on both Nikon Z series models.

Let's see some details about the D044 QR Plate. The plate is flat with an almost centered mounting screw hole for the 1/4"-20 mounting screw. Since the tripod socket on the new Z series cameras lies just under the lens center there is no need for a captive slot for the mounting screw.
A small pin behind the mounting screw acts as the anti-twist mechanism for the flat plate.
The bottom side of the D044 QR plate is also flat, with only a socket for the mounting screw head. In the photo below is obvious that the QR plate Arca-Style dovetail is rectangular, thus allowing for bidirectional mounting on a ball head QR clamp.

The Hejnar D045 model on the right is a little higher than the D044 in order to permit the simultaneous use of them on the camera body and on the FTZ adapter. Nonetheless, it is also bidirectional allowing for clamping at any direction the user desires.
Since the plate is equipped with a mounting slot the recess at the bottom had to be increased, so as the mounting screw has enough space to move, yet to lower the mass altogether.
Mounting on the Camera
As also explained in the previous post, the Hejnar D044 QR plate is actually intended for users who mostly use the new Z series native lenses so do not need the FTZ adapter and is designed with a low profile to sit exactly under the center of the lens mount as seen below.
Being bidirectional it can be clamped any way the user desires.

Despite its low profile is still allows full clearance for either the rear tilting LCD or the FTZ adapter if ever needed to mount older Nikkors.

Now for users who wish to make more use of the FTZ adapter a dedicated QR plate was developed the D045. This time the plate is taller and bidirectional as well. In this way the user can keep the camera plate on without any interference, while getting all the functionality on the Adapter plate.
So we come to the D044 + D045 set. The extra plate on the FTZ adapter will allow for better balancing the camera with heavier and/or longer lenses, since when clamped on the adapter less stress will be applied to the lens mount on the camera body.

Although both adapters are bidirectional only the taller one, here the D045 on the FTZ adapter can be used as such.
Obviously the clamp knob can be placed anyway the user desires when clamped on the D045 QR plate. |
Screws and Tools
It has become a standard that all Hejnar QR plates are accompanied by all necessary screws and tools, which in the case of the D044 are one SS 1/4"-20 mounting screw and one appropriately sized Allen Hex key.
As expected of course the D044 + D045 combined set is accompanied by two SS 1/4"-20 mounting screws and one appropriately sized Allen Hex key.
According to Hejnar Photo as well as my tests, Hejnar plates are compatible with Kirk®, R.R.S.®, Arca-Swiss®, and many other Arca-Swiss style Quick release clamps.
I hope you found the information useful, thank you for viewing.
