Sunwayfoto® has announced the release of their Custom L Bracket for the top line Fujifilm X-T4 mirror-less interchangeable lens camera.
The plate follows a two piece design, with a wooden front grip extension which makes it very rigid covering the full base of the camera while remaining versatile when sitting on the side vertical plate as the latter is still able to move away from the camera.
Although it follows the latest in Sunwayfoto finishing, including a robust satin hard-coat anodizing as well as full compatibility with any Arca-Swiss® style dovetail and with RRS® Lever Release clamps, still the price tag is quite mediocre for such quality.

The Sunwayfoto PFL-XT4 L Bracket has a full length plate designed to cover the base of the camera. A full length ridge at the front, continues with a hollow wooden grip which curves around the camera front grip and ends on the side.
The ridge combined with a set pin at the rear left and a rubber matt around the camera mounting screw undertake the role of immobilizing the L plate on the camera in all directions.
The rear side of the base plate lacks a ridge, while it is filed so much as to allow for unobtrusive movement of the tilting LCD screen of the camera. A lens center mark is also found below the recess at the back of the base plate.
The removable vertical side plate is also cut on the rear side allowing for better access and opening of the left side plastic covers of the connectors.
Besides that the vertical side plate features four 1/4"-20 tapped holes which may become very useful for the attachment of accessories as we can see further.
The hollowed out design of the bottom of the plate has a large opening for easy battery and memory door access. Besides the hex camera mounting 1/4"-20 captive screw which conveniently sports also a slot for a coin or large flat screwdriver, exist a another 1/4"-20 threaded hole for direct mounting on a pod. On the left side a hex 1/4"-20 captive screw, within a captive slot, is responsible for the movement of the vertical side plate away from the camera side when larger plugs need to be connected in vertical (portrait) orientation.
Something new for Sunwayfoto plates, that becomes a custom is the existence of one small magnet aside the mounting screw, facilitating the attachment of a coin for tightening the mounting or side regulating screws.
A couple of M3 screws are placed within one opening below the front wooden grip which actually hold the grip and therefore allow removal at will.
Due to design limitations, there are not any M3 safety screws neither on the side nor at the bottom of the L bracket.
I should mention that the base plate and the vertical plate dovetails are completely aligned. The refore there is no need of correcton in camera framing and/or focusing when changing orientation from landscape to portrait and vise versa.
Mounting the L Bracket on a Camera
The PFL-XT4 L bracket is a an absolute fit to the Fujifilm X-T4 camera body. Due to the cut on the rear the lens center mark is located at the front of the vertical plate.
The illustration below demonstrates all the features of the base plate, access to the battery and memory door, with a coin in place and the vertical side plate extended away from the camera body if required.
The vertical plate design, together with the forementioned cut-outs allows full access to the left-side camera connectors and strap loop. But most obvious from the illustration below is the ability to attach accessories like a magic arm holding a fill light or other devices.
Same as with all Sunwayfoto products, all necessary stainless steel screws and tools are included in the package. The L bracket is accompanied by the appropriate size Allen hex wrench, 2 x 1/4"-20 mounting captive-screws and a velvet protective drawstring bag.
