New Replacement Foot for Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II from Sunwayfoto

A new addition to the full range of Sunwayfoto's replacement feet for Nikon and Canon lenses was announced this past week.

The LF-N3 as denoted by the model name is the 3rd member of the Nikon Replacement Feet family, addressed to the Nikkor AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II.

The replacement foot promises better stability and versatility due to its lower height and the integrated Arca-Swiss® compatible dovetail.

The Lens Foot

The LF-N3 follows Sunwayfoto quality CNC machining from lightweight aircraft grade Aluminium followed by exemplary finishing and satin-black anodizing.

The design is very similar to Nikon's own quick release lens foot, featuring the same spring loaded latch which secures the foot on the lens collar and the small knob which tightens the foot around the collar dovetail. Of course the similarities stop here as the LF-N3 has a full length Arca compatible lower dovetail for mounting and balancing the lens on an Arca style QR clamp while it has a smaller upper  dovetail for mounting other gear like a flash bracket. Furthermore, there is also a strap loop on the front.

The design of the attachment mechanism is very similar to Nikon's own quick release lens foot, featuring the same spring loaded latch which secures the foot on the lens collar with a click and the small knob which tightens the foot around the collar dovetail.

Mounting on the Lens

It's very simple to mount the LF-N3 on the lens collar since there is no difference from the original in this respect. A look at the bottom reveals the two M3 safety stop screws at both ends and the extra mounting hole with 1/4"-20 thread for direct mounting on a pod.

The LF-N3 Replacement Foot fits seamlessly on the lens collar keeping the combo at a lower height than the original foot combined with an Arca compatible lens plate.

The LF-N3 dovetail geometry follows the latest trend in Sunwayfoto products since its dimensions are compatible with virtually all Arca style clamps including Really Right Stuff® lever clamps.
One would say that there is nothing innovative about this replacement foot, since similar products from RRS® or Kirk® are for a long time in the market already.
However, dating back to the beginning of 2014 Sunwayfoto has started an aggressive pricing strategy with many of their products selling at half the price of competition while maintaining top quality and this is one of them.
