Replacement Foot Plate for Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II from Sunwayfoto

Further to the release of the custom Replacement Foot for Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II with Arca-Swiss® dovetail last October, Sunwayfoto has also proceeded in releasing a Replacement Foot Plate for the same lens.
The replacement foot comes as a stronger alternative to the original Nikon lens foot plate which seems to fail under stress.

Bent or torn plates have been reported both on the older Nikon AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 VR and the newer G ED VR II lenses.

The Lens Foot Plate

The LFM-N1 adheres to the same quality CNC machining from lightweight aircraft grade Aluminium as well as exemplary finishing and satin-black anodizing, as all Sunwayfoto products.

The LFM-N1 design is very similar to Nikon's own quick release lens foot plate, but quite thicker especially around the screw holes which seems to be the weak point of the Nikon plate.  The plate is accompanied by four longer stainless steel screws matching the plates thickness.
Another distinct difference is the shape of the quick mount dovetail, which is beveled and rounded on the front for easier mounting of the lens foot.

A bottom or better say inner side view of the foot plate shows that it is a little wider than the original Nikon which sits flush with the collar respective cavity. There is a lip all around the Sunwayfoto plate meaning that the lower part is sitting in the collar cavity and the rest on top.
Quite obviously the center 1/4"-20 threaded mounting hole is reinforced compared to the original plate.

Mounting on the Lens

Using a small Phillips screw driver the LFM-N1 can be screwed in place of the original plate, which of course has to be removed from the lens collar first.

When the Sunwayfoto LFM-N1 Replacement Foot Plate is shown on the Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II from the side the extra thickness of the plate is obvious.
