Sunwyafoto's line of custom L Brackets for the Canon EOS family of digital cameras, has been further enriched with another member.
This latest model is intended to fit and support the Canon EOS 90D in a more standard on piece style closer to the recent Sunwayfoto Custom L Bracket for Canon EOS R than the somehow awkward style of the Sunwayfoto Custom L Bracket PCL-80D for Canon EOS 80D.
The Sunwayfoto PCL-90D is coherent with the most of Sunway custom Canon L Brackets which have one piece design, i.e. a custom base plate with convex edges and a vertical side plate solidly attached to it.

PCL-90D matches also Sunwayfoto standards in CNC machining from solid blocks of aircraft-grade aluminium with high quality surface finishing and hard coat anodizing.
It features a convex edge at the rear side of the base plate meant to embrace the curves at the bottom of the camera and a special pin near the front both acting as an anti-twist mechanism.
Further, the base plate features a hand strap loop as well as an extra pod mounting hole threaded 1/4"-20 placed towards the rear.
The laser engraved Sunwayfoto logo and model name have moved to the rear side of the base plate, where there are no other marks. Especially on the vertical, that would have been impossible, considering the big gap on the dovetail which is designed to accept the articulating screen when flipped out on the side.
Therefore, the usual Φ lens centering marks, have moved to the front side of the base and the vertical plates. The Φ marks on both plains prove of aid when changing from landscape to portrait orientation in order to maintain the framing, however a very slight correction back-forth might be needed.
Looking at the bottom, we find the 1/4"-20 captive camera mounting screw which has both hex socket and slot for coin. Further there is a second set screw with flatter head which controls the alignment pin. Both screws reside in captive slots allowing the base plate to move away from the camera side.
It is also clear that there are two M3 safety stop screws on the edges of each Arca Swiss® compatible dovetail, a total of four. On the base they are place one near the edge of the strap loop and the other below the side plate mounting brace. On the vertical side plate are placed on the edges.
An extra mounting hole threaded 1/4"-20 is also placed low on the side vertical plate, which can prove useful in mounting arms or accessories.
Mounted on the Canon EOS 90D
The PCL-90D attached on the EOS 90D like any decent custom L Bracket fits tightly on the camera bottom avoiding any wobbling.
Unlike the previous model design that featured a vertical side plate positioned a lot offset to the front in order to allow for full opening of the EOS 80D articulated LCD screen to the left, the Sunwayfoto PCL-90D L Bracket has an opening on the vertical plate instead to accommodate the articulated LCD screen.
Although Canon engineers have decided once more to scatter the EOS 90D side connectors quite apart from each other grouped under different weather sealing covers, making it difficult to open the covers and use them behind an L Bracket side plate, it can be done successfully.
Nevertheless, due to the fact that mounting and alignment screws sit in captive slots as mentioned previously, the PCL-90D L bracket does gives the ability to be moved away from the camera side.
In this way large plugs extending out of the camera side can be accommodated even when the camera needs to be clamped in portrait orientation.
Last but not least, the PCL-90D length covers almost all of EOS 90D bottom plate, leaving the battery compartment free for easy battery replacement.

The PPCL-90D package, besides the L bracket it also contains all necessary screws and tools. In this case 4 x M3 safety stop screws for the bottom and side plates, 1 x 1/4"-20 captive screw and one pre-fit set screw. 2 rubber washers, one 4 mm and one 2.5mm Allen hex wrenches for the for the mountin screw and M3 screws respectively.
A velvet draw-string bag is also a standard to protect your L bracket.
