It's exactly 4 years today, since the release of the Hejnar Photo MS-5P_8 Linear Motion Macro Focusing Rail which has been the base for a couple of iterations with side scales and some time later even digital scales.
So on this 4th anniversary Chris Hejnar has released an elongated version at 10" inches, model MS5P_10 Linear Motion focusing macro rail.
The 10" focusing stage is absolutely the same as its 8" sibling besides the length. It was actually developed after demand for a longer travel by some flower macro enthusiasts.
Therefore the MS5P_10 features the same lead screw offering 1.06 mm travel (0.0417") per one rotation of the knob(s) with a maximum travel distance now of 5.5 inch (139.7 mm) instead of 3.5 inch (89 mm).

Same as all the latest Hejnar Macro stages the outer shell is aluminum with a 0.002" thick ceramic coating for added corrosion resistance and endurance at a temperature range of –400° F to +375° F (-240° C to +190° C ).
Although 10" long, the MS5P_10 maintains the structure and stability of the MS5P_8 where the width enhances these characteristics and it comes as well with the wide F63b QR clamp by default.
The lead screw is driven by two large knobs one at each end of the screw, providing access from both sides.
It features Self Aligning Linear Sleeve Bearings. Having a nonabrasive, chemical-resistant PTFE liner they don't require any additional lubrication, consisting them virtually maintenance free.
Fast positioning of the slider is effected by pressing the chrome slider release push button shown below, just under the carriage.

We have come across the Hejnar F63b QR clamp quite many times recently. It is compatible with virtually any Arca style Quick Release plate. Since it is not integrated into the slider, it can be dismounted and mounted in any orientation, but also used on a ball head or other equipment at will.
The slider is equipped with the larger Hejnar Photo F63b 3.25" (82mm) long Arca Swiss® compatible Quick Release clamp, which sports two extra mounting / alignment screws within the safety relief grooves. (b at the end of the model name stands for long black knob).
In the picture above the clamp is attached on the slider by one 1/4"-20 flat head screw through its center hole. Two M4 flat head screws can be used as alignment screws on the sides of the center screw at any orientation. All screws can be easily loosened by the included Allen hex keys in order to be reoriented at users will, in 90° increments, so as to place the clamp jaws either parallel or perpendicular to the slider and the protruding srew-knob at any side the user finds more convenient.
When the clamp is mounted perpendicularly to the slider, then the large clamp area becomes a convenient wide platform for lateral adjustment of the camera within the clamp.
The Arca Dovetail
When the MS5P_10 Linear Motion lead screw adjusting macro rail is mounted on a Tripod Head equipped with an Arca-Swiss® compatible clamp, the camera to subject distance can be adjusted by moving the whole stage within the ball head clamp limits via its bottom Rail and further engage in extra-fine adjustments using the lead screw knobs.
The bottom rail is equipped with an Arca Swiss® compatible dovetail, so it can be used with any head equipped with an Arca compatible clamp, while the existence of both sizes of 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 tapped holes located on the center cross brace at the bottom of the rail, allow for direct mounting on a pod with either type of stud.
The MS5P_10 comes with M3 safety stop screws pre-installed at both ends of the bottom rail, thus not allowing the large stage to fall off from a loosely tightened quick release clamp.
As far as load capacity is concerned, the MS5P_10 is not different than the other Hajnar Macro Stages, which can operate in vertical orientation (perpendicular to the ground) with a load up to 10 lb (4,53 kg), while in horizontal orientation (parallel to the ground) the load can be increased up to 15 lb (6,80 kg).
