The G017-40 was originally introduced serving as a vertical rail with my Mini version of an Arca compatible Panorama Head, thoroughly described in the Create a Mini Multi-Row Panorama Head for Mirrorless Cameras article.
Needless to say of course, that its multipurpose nature makes the G017-50 also suitable for other uses, combined or not with other clamps and/or rails.

| The Hejnar G017-50 has two captive slots, a center 1/4"-20 tapped hole and is accompanied by two 1/4"-20 hex socket captive screws and two Allen hex keys. 10 cm long laser engraved decimal scales run on both top edges marked in 1 mm increments according to the Hejnar pattern. |

| Looking under the hood, ;) well under the rail... we can see a centrally located brace holding the pass through 1/4"-20 hole. There are also two M3 safety stop screws at both ends, which however are of no importance as long as the rail is intended for vertical use, otherwise they may prove useful. |

| As with the G017-40 the difference between the other Hejnar Multipurpose rails of this size and the G017-50, lies on the two extra 5 mm dowel pin holes on the front, beside the 1/4"-20 tapped hole. Which as we shall see further down serve for the proper alignment of clamps. |
Combined with Hejnar F60 1.0" QR Clamp
My choice between the Hejnar PHOTO clamps for the comparatively small G017-50 is the smallest of Hejnar QR clamps the F60 1.0". Because of its light weigh the F60 will add only 1.7 oz (45 gr), whilst it can easily hold the weight of an interchangeable lens mirrorless camera.

| Using one dowel pin, one 1/4"-20 flat head screw which is provided with the F60 clamp and the the 4mm Allen hex key appropriate for the 1/4"-20 screw (also provided) the QR clamp can be aligned and fixed securely on the front tapped hole of the rail. |

| The addition on the other side, of the Sunwayfoto DDH-02 panning clamp or the little larger DDH-03 as pictured above makes it an 1" taller but still lightweight vertical rail than the one described in the Create a Mini Multi-Row Panorama Head for Mirrorless Cameras article. |
Combined with Hejnar F61B 1.5" QR Clamp
Nevertheless, in case you you need more clamping strength, then the Hejnar F61B* 1.5" QR clamp would be more appropriate with a larger jaw length which will permit adequate handling for increased torque. This of course happens with a small sacrifice on the extra weight added, though minimal.
*B stands for small black knob

| The F61B, due to its larger size and three dowel pin holes at the bottom, can be attached in any orientation to the rail front turned by 90°. |
