There has been quite some time waiting after the release of the Sunwayfoto PCL-R Custom L Bracket for Canon EOS R Full Frame mirrorless camera, for an L bracket for the Gripped camera.
Nonetheless, this June the Canon fans anticipation has ended with the release of the Sunwayfoto PCL-RG L bracket dedicated to the EOS-R equipped with BG-E22 battery grip.
As I have mentioned in PCL-R article, Sunwayfoto engineers when designing the PCL-R, had to choose between full versatility and function. Since it is of an one piece design, they had to chose between the classic approach maintaining lens manipulation with left hand easier, allow access to all side ports but compromise full tilting of the LCD screen when extended.
Somehow, in this respect as we shall see later on, things became a little easier with the PCL-RG due to the existence of the bulkier battery grip.
Now the L bracket allows for the articulated LCD screen to be extended out, or be turned forward for vloggers but has also some clearance when fully extended out.
Having said that, lets see the L bracket specs in detail.

Standard characteristics of the Sunwayfoto plates and L brackets are seen on the PCL-RG as well. It is precision CNC machining from aircraft-grade aluminium followed by high quality finishing and hard coat surface anodizing.
The PCL-RG L bracket is made of one piece aluminum block maintaining unparalleled rigidity. The large bottom plate has front and back raised edges embracing almost all the camera Grip, which prevent the bracket from twisting.
The usual extra 1/4"-20 tapped hole and a strap loop are also present.
The vertical plate is placed higher on top of two arms shaped appropriately to allow for the removal of the battery drawer.
As illustrated clearly below, the vertical side plate dovetails are placed exactly in line with the base plate dovetails in order to allow for changes in camera orientation without need for other corrections even focusing.
A couple of M3 safety screws are found on either end of both the base and the vertical Arca style dovetail plates. The larger D-Ring type captive mounting screw comes standard, featuring also a slot for easier tightening with a coin described in detail in Sunwayfoto QRS-01 Hinged D-Ring 1/4"-20 Screw article.
Another feature is that the mounting screw slides within its 22 mm captive slot. This permits movement of the L bracket away from the camera side quite enough, in order to accept cables with larger plugs when clamped in portrait (vertical) orientation.
The extra 1/4"-20 tapped hole and the strap mounting hole found at the inner side of the base plate facilitate one for direct mounting on pods with 1/4"-20 studs and he second for the attachment of a wrist strap.
Mounting the Bracket on the Camera
The PCL-RG fits tightly on the BG-E22 Grip of the EOS R as is very explicitly illustrated below, fulfilling all of its role requirements which are to protect the camera body, allow for LCD screen articulation and of course...
... to allow for mounting the camera either in landscape (horizontal) or in portrait (vertical) orientation without changing the perspective. As it was mentioned previously the L bracket can be slid adequately away from the camera side as far as 22 mm so as larger and/or longer plugs may be connected while in portrait orientation.
The side connector ports and their respective doors are fully accessible. While the same applies for the battery drawer which can be unlocked and drawn out without having to remove the L bracket as is the common sense in what to expect from an L bracket.

The PCL-RG package, besides the L bracket it also contains all necessary screws and tools. In this case 4 x M3 safety stop screws for the base and vertical side plates, 1 x Sunwayfoto QRS-01 Hinged D-Ring 1/4"-20 camera mounting screw and 1 x Allen wrench 2.5mm for the M3 screws.
Also included is a velvet protective bag with draw-string closure.
Following the Sunwayfoto standards which were implemented at the end of 2017 concerning the geometry of all Sunwayfoto Arca style dovetails. The PCL-RG is compatible with almost all Arca style clamps including RRS lever release clamps.
