New Nest NT-6324CT Carbon Fiber Traveler Tripod Released

Nest NT-6324CT Carbon Fiber Traveler Tripod
A taller and sturdier version of the Nest NT-6294CT Carbon Fiber Traveler Tripod reviewed last month, has been released, in the beginning of this month, in the US market.

Under the NT-6324-CT model name, the new addition to the "Professional Line" of Nest tripods shares exactly the same design and features with its smaller sibling but sports larger diameter 32mm top leg section tubes.

This is quite interesting as I know of very few, maybe only a couple other tripod manufacturers, who offer reverse folding traveler tripods of such caliber.

The extra capacity and torsional stiffness of this model, offers a compact 180° folding traveler solution for even larger and heavier camera / lens combinations.

The Tripod Specification

Manufacturer Specification:
Model:NT-6324CT
Leg Sections:4

Max Load:25 Kg / 55.10 lb

The above specifications refer to the NT-6324CT tripod without a ball head. therefore all measurements in the specification table may differ from data displayed on other websites which in their majority include a ball head.

Features:
Nest NT-6324CT 8X carbon fiber layers weaving
  • Forged Aluminium/Magnesium alloy spider.
  • 8 X Layers Carbon Fiber legs.
  • One leg can be converted to a Monopod.
  • Two position leg locks.
  • Reversible legs fold up 180°.
  • The center column can be inverted for unusual low angle shots.

Taking into account the superb quality and patented twist locks of the Nest Professional Series, which were presented in detail in the NT-6294-CT review, and the exceptionally low price, then users seeking a very transportable solution capable of heavy loads should take this tripod into consideration seriously.

I hope you found the information useful, thank you for viewing.

  1. Sotiris,
I just purchased this tripod from OEC and it does come with 2 padded legs and retractable spiked feet. Looks to be a good unit but waiting on my FB 36 head before I can put it to use.

    1. Hi Steve,
Thanks for the update about the padded legs and retractable spiked feet, that sounds great!
Regarding the ball head choice, in my opinion the extra capacity of this tripod would better match with a larger ball head like the FB-44. Nevertheless, it depends on the tasks the tripod will be commissioned to and of course if one can afford the extra cost, weight and bulk of the larger ball head.
      Regards, Sotiris

  2. I really debated between the two heads but I decided on the "36" to attempt to match the tripod plate size to ballhead diameter. I am using a D600 with 70-300 VR (currently the largest/heaviest lens I own). I may upgrade head if needed. Your thoughts?

    1. If the tripod plate has the same diameter as the NT-6294, then the "44" panning base will protrude by 2.5 mm around, a fact that may prevent the legs from folding back fully.
I can estimate that your current camera/lens combo although front heavy will not be a burden for the "36".
In my tests the head can hold heavier combos as a gripped EOS 7D + EF 70-200 f/2.8 L (clamped on the camera grip, not balanced on the lens foot) but that's the head limit, since any operational smoothness is lost at this point.
As long as you can upgrade head later if needed, give it a try. Any feedback on the results will be appreciated.

  4. Hi Sotiris,
I have finally completed my setup. I received but returned the FB 36 for the FB 44. I agree with you in that this should be a much better combination for my setup (D600). Although the base plate of the Nest tripod is supposed to be 50mm it is larger (probably closer to 58/60mm) and the FB 44 is (supposed to be) 55mm, the ball head fits within the diameter of the tripod plate. Overall the ball head looks to be very nice except that the tilt knob seems to be loose, i.e. there is some play before the knob engages. This is not really a problem but was unexpected. So here is my setup (from the bottom): Nest 6324C tripod, Sunwayfoto FB44 Ball Head, Sunwayfoto PNL-D600 L bracket, and for panorama shooting add the Sunwayfoto DDP-62S with DDY-64IL discal, and Sunwayfoto DMP-200 nodal slide. So far looks to be an excellent setup-now I just need to get out and shoot some images! Thanks for your reviews!

    1. Hi Steve,
Thanks for the update and the information on specs. You have managed to pull together an excellent setup which is able to cope with future expansion of your gear.
Regarding the lock knob, is not a problem as it just unscrews more than actually needed, mine is the same. You just need to regulate the minimum friction you prefer and then turn clockwise the small thumb screw on the knob until it stops. This will not permit the lock knob to unscrew further than the set point.
With a little experimentation you will find a sweet spot for your gear (loaded each time) where the ball remains inert in all angles but you will still be able to move it by hand.
Enjoy your new equipment and happy shooting!

  5. Just checked the other reviews, I wanted to know if the center column is removable like in the 6294CT?

Could someone please verify, Thank You.
