Owners of the new EOS RP mirrorless camera from Cnon have been waiting quite some time after the release of the Sunwayfoto PCL-R Custom L Bracket for Canon EOS R for a dedicated L bracket to the smaller camera model.
Nonetheless, the Sunwayfoto PCL-RP L bracket is here for the Canon EOS RP fans, with lots of features, like a full base length coming to substitute and replace the Canon EOS RP optional accessory grip.
Unfortunately, the bad thing is that this first attempt for the EOS RP from Sunwayfoto will not be available through all outlets in the US market due to its modular design.

Standard characteristics of the Sunwayfoto plates and L brackets are seen on the PCL-RP as well. It is precision CNC machining from aircraft-grade aluminium followed by high quality finishing and hard coat surface anodizing.
Sunwayfoto engineers have adopted a modulr design for the PCL-RP L bracket while maintaining very high rigidity. The large bottom plate has a raised edge starting from below the lens embracing almost all the front and side finger Grip. The raised lip and a couple of pins prevent the bracket base from twisting.
As illustrated clearly below, the vertical side plate dovetails are placed exactly in line with the base plate dovetails in order to allow for changes in camera orientation without need for framing corrections or even focusing.
The usual extra 1/4"-20 tapped hole and a strap loop are missing from the base plate. On the other hand there are two extra 1/4"-20 tapped holes on the side vertical plate, which allow for the mounting of accessories like Fill lights and small clamps.
A couple of M3 safety screws are found on either end of the vertical Arca style dovetail plate.
Another uncommon feature for Sunwayfoto L brackets is the full coverage of the camera base with an opening for accessing the battery door. Further than that there are two extra hex screws present near the edge of the base plate, which permit the movement of the side plate away from the camera side quite enough, in order to accept cables with larger plugs when clamped in portrait (vertical) orientation.
Another uncommon feature for Sunwayfoto L brackets is the full coverage of the camera base with an opening for accessing the battery door. Further than that there are two extra hex screws present near the edge of the base plate, which permit the movement of the side plate away from the camera side quite enough, in order to accept cables with larger plugs when clamped in portrait (vertical) orientation.
Furthermore, a there is a cavity at the bottom intended to hold the 4mm Alen wrench via two small magnets. This allows for easy access of the wrench when needed to release or tighten back the side plate.
The larger D-Ring type captive mounting screw comes standard, featuring also a slot for easier tightening with a coin described in detail in Sunwayfoto QRS-01 Hinged D-Ring 1/4"-20 Screw article.
However, this design allows for only one M3 safety screw on the bottom plate placed near the side plate.
Mounting the Bracket on the Camera
The PCL-RP fits tightly on the base of the EOS RP as illustrated below, fulfilling all of its role requirements which are to protect the camera body, allow for LCD screen articulation and of course...
... to allow for mounting the camera either in landscape (horizontal) or in portrait (vertical) orientation without changing the perspective.
The side connector ports and their respective covers are fully accessible, as obvious in the photo below.

In this case 3 x M3 safety stop screws for the base and vertical side plates, 1 x Sunwayfoto QRS-01 Hinged D-Ring 1/4"-20 camera mounting screw, 1 x 2.5 mm Allen wrench for the M3 screws and 1 x 4 mm Allen wrench for the extension screws.
There is also a velvet protective bag with draw-string closure, included.
Following the Sunwayfoto standards which were implemented at the end of 2017 concerning the geometry of all Sunwayfoto Arca style dovetails. The PCL-RP is compatible with almost all Arca style clamps including RRS lever release clamps.

As it was mentioned earlier the side plate of the L bracket can be pulled out adequately away from the camera side supported by two stainless steel rods as larger and/or longer plugs may be connected on the side connector ports, while in portrait orientation.
The side connector ports and their respective covers are fully accessible, as obvious in the photo below.
