Yet another L bracket announced by Sunwfayfoto, this time dedicated to the high caliber SONY α1 flagship camera.
Model PSLO-α1 which as denoted by the model name, belongs to the One piece design school and is Arca-Swiss® and RRS® compatible, intended mainly for the US market.
Following the design of the latest models dedicated to SONY cameras, namely PSL-a7RIVG Custom L Bracket, PSLO-a7RIV Custom L Bracket and PSL-a7RIV Custom L Bracket for SONY α7RIV Camera the new L Bracket incorporates a QD socket on its base plate as well as 3 axis bubble levels.

Sunwayfoto PSLO-α1 Arca-Swiss® compatible custom L bracket abides to the high standards of Sunwayfoto manufacturing, being CNC machined from a single high density Aluminium block, followed by hard coat anodizing.
The dovetail width, standard now to all Sunwayfoto products, is compatible with almost all Arca-Swiss style clamps and even with RRS® lever release clamps.
The convex ridge at the front of the base plate and one boss on the top of the vertical side plate secure the bracket and act as anti-twist mechanisms in order to prevent it from shifting. The design of the full length dovetail on the base-plate in combination with the long captive slot of the mounting screw, allows lateral adjustment when distancing the vertical plate from the camera body side.
The base plate and vertical side plate dovetails are aligned contrary to previous models that had a slight offset in order to let access to the connector ports on the left camera side.
The base plate maintains the usual Φ mark for lens centering on the rear side, while in portrait (vertical orientation) the user has to rely on a small "-" mark on the vertical side plate.
Nonetheless, focusing and framing adjustments may not be needed when changing orientations due to the alignment of base and vertical side plate.
In any case leveling is ensured by three (3) bubble levers placed in such a way to correspond to side and fore-aft tilt, both in horizontal (landscape) and vertical (portrait) shooting.
The base plate is mounted on the camera via one 1/4"-20 captive mounting screw featuring a D-Ring, but is also slotted. The screw resides in a 20 mm long captive slot, allowing the L bracket to be slid away from the camera side.
There are a total of four (4) M3 safety stop screws on this bracket, two on each end of either plates. Further, there is a reinforced QD (Quick Detach) socket placed near the inner corner of the base plate, and a total of three (3) 1/4"-20 tapped holes, located in the middle of the base plate, the lower part of the vertical plate and on the top of the vertical side plate. These could serve for mounting on a pod without removing the bracket or attach any kind of accessory equipped with an 1/4"-20 screw.
As usual also a strap loop is present on the open end of the base plate for the attachment of a wrist strap.
Mounting on the Camera
The PSLO-α1 L Bracket embraces and protects the Sony α1 body adding about 1 cm to the camera dimensions at the bottom and 2 cm on the left side, but little weight.
The base plate runs all the width under the LCD screen, starting from the left edge and stopping just before the battery-door hinge, enabling the unobstructed exchange of batteries.
The vertical L side plate positioning permits full access to the camera side connectors through its opening with the port covers slid outwards.
As the anti-twist convex ridge is sitting against the front panel of the camera, nothing interferes with either the raising or tilting of the LCD screen at the rear.
The designers have taken extra care so the left camera strap loop is not blocked by the L Bracket vertical side.
Combined with the right quality of Sling Strap as the Sunwayfoto STR-01 illustrated bellow, the QD socket will enable quick detachment and re-attachment of the camera when on the road.
The era where photographers and especially videographers require more and more accessories to be attached on their rigs is here now. Therefore, Sunwayfoto has enriched most of their current L bracket models with more tapped holes to serve the purpose.
Microphones, Mobile phone brackets, up to video fill lights can be safely attached directly on the bracket without the need for an extra rig.
