This time the release of the two-piece modular Sunwfayfoto PSL-α1 L Bracket dedicated to the high resolution SONY α1 flagship camera was simultaneous with the PSLO-a1 Custom L Bracket for SONY α1 posted yesterday.
The modular bracket is also Arca-Swiss® compatible and RRS® compatible mainly for the international markets.
Same as its sibling the design features follow the path set by the latest Sunwayfoto models dedicated to SONY cameras, namely PSL-a7RIVG Custom L Bracket, PSLO-a7RIV Custom L Bracket and PSL-a7RIV Custom L Bracket for SONY α7RIV Camera the new L Bracket incorporates a QD socket on its base plate, plus three (3) axis bubble levels.

Sunwayfoto PSL-α1 Arca-Swiss® compatible custom L bracket abides to the high standards of Sunwayfoto manufacturing. It is CNC machined from a single Aluminium block and then hard coat anodizing for protection against corrosion.
Further than that, it also follows the dovetail width standard now to all Sunwayfoto products which is compatible with almost all Arca style clamps even with RRS® lever release clamps.
The convex ridge at the front of the base plate and one boss on the top of the vertical side plate secure the bracket and act as anti-twist mechanisms in order to prevent it from shifting.
The full length dovetail on the base-plate ensures stability, while the long captive slot of the side plate mounting screw allows for lateral adjustment when distancing the vertical plate from the camera body side.
Should I mention that this model features aligned dovetails between the vertical side plate and the base plate.
The overall design is very similar to the one-piece PSLO-α1 so the base plate maintains the usual Φ mark for lens centering on the rear side, while in portrait (vertical orientation) the user has to rely on a small "-" mark on the vertical side plate for the same purpose.
As forementioned, focusing and framing adjustments may not be needed when changing orientations due to the alignment of base and vertical side plate.
Likewise, leveling in all axes is ensured by three (3) bubble levers placed in such a way to correspond to side and fore-aft tilt, both in horizontal (landscape) and vertical (portrait) shooting.
The base plate is mounted on the camera via one 1/4"-20 captive mounting screw featuring a D-Ring but is also slotted.
The 1/4"-20 hex / slotted mounting screw of the side vertical plate resides in a 20 mm long captive slot, allowing for only the L bracket side plate to be moved away from the camera side.
There are a total of four (4) M3 safety stop screws, located at each end of either side plate. Further, there is a reinforced QD (Quick Detach) socket placed near the outer end of the base plate, and a total of three (3) 1/4"-20 tapped holes, located in the middle of the base plate, the lower part of the vertical plate and on the top of the vertical side plate. The extra threaded holes serve for mounting on a pod without removing the bracket or attach any kind of accessory equipped with an 1/4"-20 screw.
Furthermore, a strap loop is also there on the base end for the attachment of a wrist strap.
Mounting on the Camera
The PSL-α1 L Bracket fits well and protects the Sony α1 body adding about 1 cm to the camera dimensions at the bottom and about 2 cm at the left side but with minimal increase in weight.
The base plate runs all the width under the LCD screen, starting from the left edge and stopping just before the battery-door hinge, enabling the unobstructed exchange of batteries.
The vertical L side plate positioning permits full access to the camera side connectors through its opening with the port covers slid outwards.
Further, nothing interferes with either the raising or tilting of the LCD screen at the rear since the anti-twist convex ridge is sitting against the front panel of the camera,.
Much like the PSLO-α1 the designers have provided extra space between the L Bracket side and the camera body so the left camera strap loop is not blocked.
Combined with the right quality of Sling Strap as the Sunwayfoto STR-01 illustrated bellow, the QD socket will enable quick detachment and re-attachment of the camera when on the road.
Following the trend where photographers and especially videographers require more and more accessories to be attached on their rigs, Sunwayfoto has enriched most of their current L bracket models with more tapped holes to serve the purpose.
Microphones, Mobile phone brackets, up to video fill lights can be safely attached directly on the bracket without the need for an extra rig.

The PSL-α1 package, besides the L bracket it also contains all necessary screws and tools. In this case 4 x M3 safety stop screws for the bottom and side plates, 1 x 1/4"-20 captive screw with D-Ring and driver slot, 1 x 1/4"-20 hex captive screw and one 4 mm and one 2.5mm Allen wrenches for the mounting and M3 screws.
Last but not least a velvet draw-string bag is also a standard to protect your L bracket.
