Nonetheless, Canon has managed once again to get into the center of attention with great demand. Which demand in turn made a Custom L Bracket a must have.
The design path for Sunwayfoto engineers was clearer this time, with experience gained from the Sunwayfoto Custom L Bracket for Canon EOS R and the Sunwayfoto Custom L Bracket for Canon EOS RP which were quite successful.
Sunwayfoto engineers when designing the PCL-R5 introduced here, chose full versatility and function with a modular two piece design. They maintained the classic approach with vertical and horizontal dovetails at same axis, while allowing access to all side ports and full tilting of the LCD screen when extended through an opening on the rear side of the vertical plate.
Somehow, it allows for the articulated LCD screen to be extended out, or be tilted up - down, or turned forward for vloggers but this has to be done before fully extending it out.
However, the modular design permits the movement of the side plate away from the camera body side, or even the removal of the side plate for absolute freedom of movement.

In this way PCL-R5 can fulfill all needs, either using the camera in portrait orientation with space for connectors for Instagramers for example, or full extension and tilting of the LCD screen in any angle at landscape shooting for vloggers.
The PCL-R5 L Bracket
Standard characteristics shared among the Sunwayfoto plates and L brackets are met by the PCL-R5. These are precision CNC machining from aircraft-grade aluminum followed by high quality hard coat surface anodizing.
The large bottom plate of the PCL-R5 is quite different than precious models. Instead of raised lips, at the front or rear, is equipped with two pins as we can see below and a rubber pad, to prevent the bracket from twisting.
The usual extra 1/4"-20 tapped hole and a strap loop are also present.
The vertical side plate besides the gap for the LCD screen, is shaped appropriately to allow for easy opening of the side connector port covers.
The usual lens centering Φ marks are placed a little awkwardly since the one on the base plate is found on the rear, while the one on the vertical plate, due to the LCD screen gap, is found at the front side.
As illustrated clearly below, the side plate is placed exactly in line with the base plate in order to allow for changes in camera orientation without need for other corrections, even focusing.
Two M3 safety screws are found on either end of both the base and the vertical Arca style dovetail plates to safeguard against accidental drops from a semi-closed clamp.
The vertical side plate may be drawn away from the camera side, enough in order to accept cables with larger plugs in portrait orientation. A captive 1/4"-20 screw which moves within a captive slot at the base plate and a drawer mechanism are responsible for that. Removal of the screw allows complete detachment of the side plate if needed.

On the other hand, the 1/4"-20 camera mounting screw is static keeping the base plate still and stable on the camera base.
Something new on Sunwayfoto L brackets is the inclusion of two small magnets in a round recess of the base plate to accept and hold a coin for easy access. Both screws have hex sockets as well as slots so can be tightened with a coin.
Another innovation on the PCL-R5 is the inclusion of 3 bubble levels that can aid the camera leveling in 3 different axes.
Furthermore there are extra 1/4"-20 tapped holes on the side plate to facilitate for direct mounting of accessory attachments.
Mounting the Bracket on the Camera
The PCL-R5 fits tightly on the EOS R5 or EOS-R6 cameras, fulfilling one of its primary tasks to protect the camera body and of course to allow for the camera be mounted in landscape or portrait orientation without changing the perspective. As mentioned above, the L bracket side plate can be drawn adequately away from the camera side so as larger and/or longer plugs may be connected while in portrait orientation.
The battery door and the side connector ports and their respective doors are fully accessible. Same goes for USB or other large plugs that have another 2 cm of clearance, when moving the vertical side away from the camera side.
Accessories like a magic arm or a Mobile Bracket are easily attached on the vertical side plate, utilizing the extra 1/4"-20 tapped holes.
Package Contents
The PCL-R5 package, besides the L bracket it also contains all necessary screws and tools. In this case 4 x M3 safety stop screws for the base and side plates, 2 x captive 1/4"-20 camera mounting screws and 2 x Allen wrenches for the 1/4"-20 and M3 screws respectively.
All parts are included in a velvet protective bag with draw-string closure.
Note:
By the end of 2017 the geometry of all Sunwayfoto Arca style dovetails has changed becoming more compatible. Therefore, the PCL-R5 by following the latest Sunwayfoto standards is compatible with almost all Arca style clamps including RRS lever release clamps.
